Why Is The Trucking Industry Losing Drivers?

HireRight, one of the world’s largest employment screening services, has been following the trends of recruiting and retaining truck drivers through providing a Transportation Spotlight survey.

Recently, their 2016 Transportation Spotlight report found that of drivers leaving the trucking industry, 21% were choosing to do so due to health related issues.

This is a trend that Conspire! has been noticing for the past few years as we conduct our own research on local CDL-holder health trends.

While most companies are willing to invest in recruitment and retention efforts through higher pay, benefits, employee recognition, upgraded equipment, etc., the report found that “as many as 45% of respondents to HireRight’s survey did not offer a wellness program at all.”

More about Driver Wellness Programs

Steven Spencer, manager director of transportation for HireRight agrees that the industry is now beginning to see wellness programs as a way to provide a better quality of life for drivers; an issue for the trucking industry as a whole in comparison to similar industries that seem to be recruiting employees at a better pace because of the quality of life they can offer.

Conspire! offers a DOT Fit program specifically tailored to CDL drivers. We help companies create a culture of healthy living through providing one-on-one and group training and counseling in lifestyle management as it pertains to health and wellbeing.

If your company is seeking to provide a better quality of life for your CDL-holding employees, visit our DOT Fit webpage for information and contact us for a consultation!
